Gusto
My year at Gusto was marked with waves of change that came with 2020. This allowed me the opportunity to work across different products to meet our users and the company where they were. I started by improving the experience for employers to manage their contractors. Shortly after, when COVID-19 happened, I was part of a flying formation team that created products around PPP loans. Finally, I joined the efforts to scale Gusto for bigger company sizes to bring in larger companies and support the needs of our small businesses as they grew
Improving contractor experience on Gusto
The first thing we did was allow contractors to track their hours on Gusto. This means employers no longer have to keep track of contractors’ hours. Second, we released 2-day contractor payments, which allowed contractors to get paid faster and make Gusto a competitive product.

COVID-19 Initiatives
During the pandemic, the government offered loans to small businesses. There were rules set in place which, if followed, meant these businesses wouldn’t have to pay the loan back. Gusto being at tI was part of a flying formation team that created awareness of the PPP loan and built a product to help businesses understand how they were spending their money and if and how much they’d have to pay back. Growing Gusto to serve bigger companies
In the second half of the year, I was focused on understanding needs of bigger companies and expanding our products to serve them. I worked closely with a primarily backend team to introduce them to the design process and create an interim solution for global settings, while charting a vision for the future of the product.
